IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS
International Applicants
All international applicants must apply directly to UKZN using the official UKZN online applications portal.
Please note that even if qualifications were obtained in South Africa, all non-South African students are required to apply through the UKZN international application process via the UKZN website.

UNDERGRADUATE INTERNATIONAL APPLICATIONS

International students applying for undergraduate qualifications (Bachelor’s degrees) at UKZN must apply directly online through the UKZN applications portal.

Required Documents for Undergraduate Applicants
- Certified copy of your passport.
- Certified copy of your school leaving qualification/certificate.
- Proof from Universities South Africa (USAf), previously known as HESA.
- Proof of English proficiency for applicants from non-English speaking countries.
- Proof of payment of the application fee.
- Any additional documents requested by the relevant college or school.
USAf / HESA Evaluation Requirement
If you are applying with a foreign school leaving qualification, you must obtain a Matriculation Exemption Certificate from Universities South Africa (USAf), previously known as HESA.

POSTGRADUATE INTERNATIONAL APPLICATIONS
International students applying for Honours, Master’s, or Doctoral qualifications must apply directly through the UKZN online application system.

Required Documents for Postgraduate Applicants
- Certified copy of your passport.
• Certified copies of previous degree certificates.
• Full academic record/transcript.
• Proof of financial clearance from previous institution(s).
• Certificate of conduct from previous institution(s).
• SAQA evaluation certificate.
• Research proposal or proposed dissertation/thesis title.
• Proof of English proficiency where applicable.
• Proof of payment of the application fee.
SAQA Evaluation Requirement
All postgraduate applicants with qualifications obtained outside South Africa must obtain a qualification evaluation from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), and attach the evaluation certificate when applying to UKZN.

Applicants may search on Google: “UKZN Status Check”.
You will be directed to the UKZN status check page where you can enter your passport number or student number to view the status of your application.

The Applications Office assists prospective students with the application process. Admission decisions are made by the relevant College, School, or Faculty.

MEDICAL HEALTH COVER
It is compulsory for all international students to obtain one of the UKZN-approved medical health covers, namely CompCare or Momentum Health. Medical health cover is required for study visa applications.
